The Storm Defender Loose Fit Heavyweight Pant features:
From shoveling snow in the Midwest to wearing these on a fishing boat in Alaska, they did a great job.
Poor design of the waist closure. Do not fit true to size and very little adjustment to keep up.
Used the true fit sizing guide to determine what I should get. It said I needed 3XL. Bought them, they arrived, but I’m not sure who they are for. I need to be almost double my size to fit in these. Now I’m not sure what size to get. Based on what the model is wearing, I’m worried 2XL will also be to large.
The pants are sized way to big, large way to big, medium almost just as big. Plus they really need a front zipper, belt loops and pockets. Other than that they seem durable and they keep you dry.
I have to say yea. For good rain and wet weather great pants.
some what difficult to put on for an elderly person. wast band does not hold them up, need suspenders. would have liked to have the pants lined.
No cold breaks through these bad boys!
One of the challenges for those of us that are tall and lean is finding quality rain pants that can be fit a smaller waist ( 30-32”)yet accommodate a 34” inseam. Unfortunately the waist adjustment of these otherwise well made pants were designed for larger waist individuals.<br /><br />Had to be returned. I would suggest to Carhartt that they design these pants with integrated suspenders.
Love these pants !! I had to buy a second pair
You need to buy them 2 sizes smaller than normal size or make the velcro longer on the waistband so you can make them tight. Overall they're decent. Can't give a review on durability if we just got them. Carhart overall quality has fallen off over the years. Mexican made!
Needs pockets on pants
One the my preferred rain wear the best for me and it’s recomendable
I love the pant, they are built so well and are a good layer of warmth as well. I was out last night in 30 degree wet snowstorm with sweats underneath them and they kept me dry and pretty warm. My issue with them is the sizing. I bought both a medium and a small and neither fit well. I am 6’1, 170 lbs so on the skinnier side. The small are too small in the waist (can barely get them around my waist) and too tight around the crotch and a bit short. The medium will not stay up so there is a big waist size gap between the two. The crotch and length and leg are perfect, but I can’t keep the pants up as they are too big around the waist. Even with sweats and a sweatshirt tucked in. There is a Velcro strap on the waist on both sides but with about an inch of available room on the Velcro, so it doesn’t tighten the waist much more than they sit naturally. As they are a thicker pant and have weight, they just fall off. My usual waist in Carhartt is a 33 which fits me perfectly and length is usually 30 or 32. Amazing pant, I just wish I could tighten the waist more so they didn’t fall off.
Sent back way to big and did not like them
Perfect for snow and cold. Too heavy for belt. Needed to purchase suspenders.
I really like the feel and quality of the pants. I wish they have incorporated some front pockets. Currently there is one rear right pocket. I bought a size small, I am like a 30x30 in pants. Waist was good, pants were a little longer than I wanted but not necessarily a bad thing.
Would like the velcro waist adjustment to be wider as it pops loose when bending over. Really missing my tool pocket on the right. Will probably get used to it.... Do like how light weight and heavy duty they are.
Is good but little be long
Definitely would recommend. Size is true to fit.
Love Carhartt
Would definitely recommend these to anyone that works out in the rain and needs durable rain pants. They are also extremely easy to get on and off, which I really like.
Solid fit, Carhartt quality. Bringing on two week road trip to OR.coast this winter. Will let you know!
Excellent air break quality and water proof.
Looked like good quality, but way too large, even if I wore these over regular pants... I had to return..
As I always say, it a pleasure to wear an advertise for carrhart
Loose fitting, correct size but may need a drawl string or extra button snap to make perfect size. I am six feet tall so length is perfect waist is too big
Bought these for my husband who is a farmer. He loves them! They are durable and don’t look like sloppy rain gear. Size down though.
These pants are rugged/durable as all get out and are comfortable as well. I would’ve liked to have seen them with front slash pockets. they have a poor Velcro waist retention with very little adjustment for varying body profiles so needless to say they like to work there way down and I’m constantly pulling them back up. I’m in that range where if I got a smaller size they would fit better however I wouldn’t be able to wear my pants or shorts underneath them. Come on Carhartt you can do better for your sale price and I expect a little better from my favorite company.
The weight of the pants is were durable but too heavy even with the two side straps.
This rain pants are awesome . I work in construction and these are perfect for when leaving work, they unzip and unbutton from the sides. Easily removed and fit very well over my jeans. I’m in the rain all day and no problem.
Overall loved the look, The quality and the comfort MY ONLY thing was it was too long for my short stocky self :(
These pants are comfortable and look great. But after they get wet they will not stay at your waist. There is no draw string, belt or belt loops and the tiny bit of a elastic is useless. I purchased a pair in Large to use for work which is the right size for my 36" waist. These should come with a built in suspender and a draw string to cinch them up. I am going to try to return them and buy the Shoteline Bid if the store I bought them from will take them back.
No fly in a pair of rainpants??? Seriously??<br /><br />In the nortwest's fall downpours the last thing you want to do is half undress to take care of business. I admit I didn't check close when ordering, I did not anticipate rain pants of this quality and price would not have a fly.
1. Fix your sizing chart guys, I ordered pants and a parachute showed up. <br />2. 7.3oz, more like 4 pounds. ... I could wear this in a northern blizzard and be absolutly fine. <br /><br />do not get me wrong, I love This company and the products ya'll come up with... but this is is a bit ridiculous. Will be returning....
My fiance is so happy with these pants!
I'm 6'0" 195lbs. After using the sizing guide, I ordered a size large/ regular. I can pull them up to my armpits and have enough room for a second person. Under no circumstances would I ever be able to function wearing these pants. Truly disappointed.
They have zippers and buttons along the side of your leg and it’s a flap that covers the zipper so it’s water proof.. they are kind of annoying if sitting down. You can get a “stiff feeling” when wearing them. But they are water tight for now. I got these to replace my non insulated inshore pants that leaked. They work awesome so far quading in 30 degree weather splashing thru puddles.
The pants are great, love the way they fit and look. The function of them is amazing
Velcro for waist needs to be longer for securing waste band.
2nd pair I have purchased. Size L is a big size L.
These were what I was looking for. The only negative points are no front zipper and they could use belt loops. Overall good fit , waiting for a chance to further evaluate.
Bought the shoreline jacket and naturally had to have the pants to go with it.
Another complaint for no fly, total fail on that regard. When you gotta go, and you have a tool belt on its a project to drop them and get to your business. Accident waiting to happen almost literally! Otherwise, we have had good luck with them. we are surveyors and use them more for snow pants than rain, so a snow cuff in the legs would be great addition. I have commented on this before hoping Carhartt will update the design...gotta go, fortunately today I am wearing pants with a fly!
i bought a pair last winter and they are great for shoveling in the snow
I just bought these pants and I think they are awesome but I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because 1 no fly and 2 no belt loops. These pants almost had everything going for them but they seemed to drop the ball on two basic features that every pair of pants should. But they do keep you dry and they breathe overall good product.
I wore these on a snow machine trip in AK. It was 25 below zero when took out and was traveling at about 40 miles per hour. No cold or wet got into these pants period.
I bought the pants because the bibs won't work the way I need them to (see my review of them under EXTREMES® ZIP-TO-WAIST BIBERALL / ARCTIC QUILT LINED for an explanation. ) The full zip feature is a brilliant idea it makes life easer. I wish they would put it on the bibs, having said that.... I chose a size of pant way bigger then I wear so I could get the belt line higher up on my torso so as to prevent snow down the pant, then I use suspenders to hold them up. I were shorts under the pants so they need to be baggy for access
I purchased these for work and recreation. I wore them ice fishing once and won't ever wear them again. They are awkward to put on and they don't have a fly so trying to relieve myself was an incredible pain. I'll never put these on again which is awful because I am a huge fan of Carhartt. This product is just unfortunately a fail.<br />I'm writing this review because I found these again while shopping for a replacement for them and am shocked that Carhartt is still selling them.
I work all over the Pacific Northwest, and I purchased my pair of these rain pants 2 or 3 years ago. Now I can't speak for this new generation of waterproof breathable pant, but the pair I have has been put through rigorous 10 hour beatings in the woods, rain, snow, and sometimes shine, and I have never been wet once other than a little ring around the boot line which can be solved with a gaiter. The rain gear does get a little heavier when wet, but thats a given for any wet material. As for windproof, I can attest that at 70 mph in the rain, you don't feel a thing. My only gripe with these pants is the elastic waist band. Carhartt, if you aren't going to make a bib version of these please put belt loops on the pants. Regretfully, I will have to get a new pair for the seams finally ripped on the inside at the knee on both legs. Again, Carhartt I believe you can remedy this problem by extending the double leg around the inside of the knee as a friction barier for the seam. In the end it was money well spent.
Don't waste your money! I am a forester in the Pacific Northwest and needed heavy-duty rain gear. I got these pants less than a year ago. These pants are not even remotely waterproof. I am soaked to the skin after just walking in wet grass or underbrush. Not just at the seams, but all through the pants themselves. Forget being out in the rain! When they are saturated with water they weigh a ton and are very uncomfortable to work in. This was my first Carhartt purchase and most likely my last.
Finally found exactly what we were looking for. Very thankful for the carhart.com website.
I buy a lot of Carhartt gear. Basically the Carhartt poster boy when I'm working. They should send me this stuff to test so that we could avoid this mess. I have the pants and jacket combo and get soaked in a good rain. I don't know why but the water will just push right though when I carry materials. In a heavy rain the water just pours in without contact. Working in the construction industry I have learned to depend on Carhartt for my clothing but this really disappointed. At the end of a good rain I look like I wet myself and my whole torso is soaked. Unsat Carhartt. Hopefully this changes, until then I'm gonna have to find another rain gear.
I purchased these pants almost 2 yrs ago along with the jacket. I work on a golf course and sometimes ,ya, even work in the rain. The jacket has worked out great, but the pants did not. At first they did, but now where ever there is a seam this is where I get wet. I figure for as much as I paid for those pants, I should have got longer than 2 yrs worth of wear out of them!! Who knows...maybe I got a defect!!!
I want to start by saying that I believe Carhartt makes durable quality products and that I have owned the Carhartt Waterproof Breathable Coat for over a year and it is great. I own other Carhartt items that are excellent. However, I recently bought the Waterproof Breathable Pants as rain pants and I find them to be so-so. They DO keep you dry. For leisure activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. they may work for most people. However, I need them for work (railroad industry) where I am outside 8 - 12 hours at a time and my safety, comfort and ease of access is important to me. Here are my pros/cons:<br />Pros: -Durable and they will keep you very dry<br />-Zipper/button openings up both legs for easy-on/easy-off.<br />Cons:<br />-No belt loops or even detachable suspenders - the only adjustment to keep them up is a velcro tightener on each side, and this does not do a very good job at keeping them tight enough. I had to fish my belt around them to keep them up - with no real belt loops on these pants, this was awkward, but kind of worked. Also, I needed to do this because I had no place to put my two-way radio.<br />-There is no fly on them whatsoever - very inconvenient and awkward when answering "call of nature."<br />-There are no usable front pockets, only one rear zipper pocket.<br />-There is no way to secure the pants bottoms if you need to roll them up or there are no inseam size options. At 5'11" I am cursed with a short inseam - 29". The only way to compensate with these pants was to roll them up, and then, I had to keep checking to make sure I did not step on the bottoms and trip myself as they had a tendency to roll down.
My wife and I have a pair each. We love them they keep us nice and dry. I can wear them all day without getting wet for sweat or rain. I have used them in the snow they work good but you need to have layers on. I use them for hunting, riding ATV, working, and most anything outside in the weather.
I got these to wear for snow removal work. they are baggy and a little long on me but i rolled these down at the waist and they fit great. the knees have not given out on me yet and I wear a pair of polar fleece pants underneath and they are perfect for the sierras cold that we get. I am confident they will hold up for some time yet and plan to purchase another pair after they wear out.
Purchased the pants to go along with the waterproof jacket my husband got. He delivers oil, no matter the weather so he needs the best protection we can get. So we got the Carhartt gear to try and he loves it. We will buy them again when the wear and tear breaks them down.
From shoveling snow in the Midwest to wearing these on a fishing boat in Alaska, they did a great job.
