Hard spot in the ankle that makes walking difficult, my first time trying these boots and I'm about to throw them away because of the discomfort in my ankles.

| boutdoor 24-01-2021 04:00

unfortunately didn't wear them for a few months then used them only to realize they are the most uncomfortable boot ever. They do have good ankle support and decent traction, but good luck making an 8 hour day in these boots.

| Tyler92 30-11-2020 17:26

Most uncomfortable boot I've ever wore thought that was sad due to the price of the boots they hurt my feet and ankles terribly wore for 2 months soles almost gone side stitching broke not satisfied at all I used a work boot voucher now I need a new place for boots

I work a very demanding job physically. 100% outdoors in the worst conditions. These boots hold up great. I’m not sure if I just got a good pair seeing the other reviews but I’ve completely submerged these things and they stay dry.

I recently purchased a new pair of Red Wing work boots. Not my first pair by any means, but it was my first time buying steel toed boots. They are just as comfortable as every other pair , I am never disappointed, thanks!! Christopher

I am a high rise window cleaner. I’ve hand there boot for about 5 months and love them. I mess with Soapy water everyday and the boots get soaked but they have not leaked yet. They also have great traction, I sometimes have to stand on an edge of a window to lift myself up to clean the window the edges are only 1.5inches and the boots grab great.

i bought these less than 3 months ago from rural king these have been the most uncomfortable pair of boots i bought . I use to buy redwing boots religiously and decided to give these a try my feet and legs would hurt everyday at work and after i figured they should have been broken in by now is there a warranty or guarantee or can i get a credit try different pair of boots? Im just very dissappointed all around it sucks having your feet hurt im not saying your product is bad but its bad for my poor feet
Thanks

I’ve had many boots expensive ones, same price as timberland better price actually in all comparison there isn’t any maybe handmade custom but we are not talking about that. if you are looking for an amazing work boot that quickly turned into what I wear regardless look no further

| Tech2020 03-03-2020 23:52

Probably the most comfortable pair of work boots I have ever worn

| Natedogg 20-02-2020 23:27

Have had them for a little over 2 years they have had an extremely tough life and have been through all sorts of work environments and weather and besides the bottom of the heals being chewed up a bit from the debris I’ve walked through and dropped on or kicked they are doing fantastic and have never left me cold or wet

| Cc1Z 07-01-2020 03:24

Don’t let the guys who soaked there boots in who knows what give these boots a bad review. For under 200 dollars you won’t find a better boot! Slim not bulky and last! They met all standards for my company and the only boot that didn’t eat at my arches when climbing. These boots became a staple in my department in less than 6 months for good reason! I suggest a half size larger than usual but the insulation is on point for anything above zero.

| Shayne 18-11-2019 16:52

Great boots! Need to make them in narrower widths, but over all love the boots.

| Collin 11-10-2019 23:51

Had them since mid august, bought my originals in late July. Those were stanky and stayed wet from sweat forever, along with causing lots of pain to my feet. Thankfully the store guy gave me a new pair for free in mid August. They solved the sweat/smell issue, but my feet slide in them slightly.

I have torn a pair of laces per week for about 2 weeks now, which is incredibly frustrating to have happen before work in the morning. I do not tie or lace them in some strange way That might cause this. I keep them laced how they came in the box.

For my job, I do lots of digging. The sole on my main digging boot (right foot, for kicking the shovel) is torn up and separating from the upper. I thought the metal shank would prevent these from being too weak for shovels.

Waterproofing works pretty well, and when I can get them tied properly tight they are pretty comfortable.

Overall, for the price I don’t think they’re worth it. I had wolverines that lasted two years for $30 less than these. Might try red wing brand instead of Irish setters next, but not too sure.

| Kyle89 07-09-2019 20:56

Kept water out nicely. Just did not hold up to the work I do. Using shovels wore out the bottoms after a month.

| Dark Horse 35 USMC 13-08-2019 14:09

I climb 1500 foot towers for a living, with all my body weight coupled with gear, roped, and rigging equipment is piercing on soles of a regular boot. The instructor’s recommendation was steel shank boots. I chose this boot and besides the price I can’t be happier.

| Matt79 26-07-2019 22:33

I bought these boots for survey work. My needs were long day comfort and the ability to work in mud or paved surfaces. These are the boots that the sales team recommended. The boots look great but they don’t have much for insole padding. I wore the boots several times just for break-in. I’ve since worn them for two long work days and my feet were beat at the end of each day. I’ve since resorted to wearing my older boots which are still far more comfortable, right out of the box. I suppose the new boots will require the suggested $50 redwing orthotics. It’s a shame that $150 boots need $50 insoles to make them tolerable for working in. I don’t recommend this boot for working on any hard surfaces.

| Structural Steel 02-07-2019 14:49

Quite possibly the best comfortable working boot I have ever worn. Tough and the dynamic flexibility transfers to every activity where a tough but flexible boot has to endure extreme punishment, or just hanging out in the yard. Love my Redwings

| Gip1259 24-06-2019 19:42

Great fit nice soles great balance steel toe very high quality boot

| Liam 22-11-2018 21:46

I’m on my second pair of these boots. I’ve noticed the poor reviews on these boots but I bought these boots without reading any reviews and I’m glad that I did. I used them for my last job working in the meat industry and they held up well in that salty wet environment. Now I work primarily on gravel and concrete and they hold up well, are very comfortable for me, and waterproof as long as you treat them with mink oil once in a while. I use superfeet green in all my boots and these are no exception. These are the only boots I will continue to buy because they’re perfect for me.

| ElevatorMan 09-10-2018 01:47

This is my second pair of these thinking the first was a fluke, but the second pair was even worse. After 7 months the steel showed through the thin leather and after 9 months the squeaks from the boot breaking sounded like rocks stuck in the tread and the soul started hurting the ball of my right foot. I used another brand for over a decade without ever having these results. My company provides a voucher for Red Wing yearly, I still had out of pocket costs to get these. I went back to my original boot, comfort over cost. I would not recommend these to anyone.

| tater 02-08-2018 22:49

tows and heel busted out right away good boot for most occupactions very comfertable

| ChrisBees36 01-05-2018 02:09

I have had these boots now for 8 months. I even sprung for the fancy insoles the machine says that you need. These are the most uncomfortable boots that I've ever worn. But that's not the worst part. They are so hot that they may as well not be waterproof because they cause you to sweat so bad. I went to the red wing store because I trusted the brand. Goes to show you that nothing is a slam dunk anymore. Should have stuck to my rule of never buying anything but Gore Tex. Unless something drastic happens, Red Wing has lost a customer for life.

| JTtowerdog 23-10-2017 21:36

Everything I loved about the previous model they changed to a cheap version of junk. I use to wear these for tower climbing. Will no longer be wearing redwings unless I can find something not made so cheaply.

I've had my Mesabis for about two months. I truly enjoyed wearing the boots to my job as ground crew for a tree service company in Washington State. Once broken in they were comfortable enough to hike in or wear into town. They look and feel good--I would tell people they're like fortresses for your feet and ankles.

Given the fact that they're marketed as or at least inspired by logging boots I was very surprised when a small branch landed on my foot just above the edge of the steel toe and the jolt of the branch hitting the leather caused the steel edge to puncture the leather. There is a 3/4" slit in the leather now, rendering the waterproofing useless, which is problematic as we enter PNW autumn.

If you have the sense that the leather is brittle and might not hold up to your job, I noticed there's now a new "puncture resistant" Mesabi...as if to highlight that this style falls short of that and is maybe in fact puncture prone.

Just to explain my rating a bit, to me these would be outstanding boots if not for the fact that the leather can't hold up to a fallen branch. But without that ability, you can't say that they perform and you can't say that they're high quality.

I want to try Irish Setters again, but this first experience was a bust.
