The Storm Defender Loose Fit Heavyweight Pants features:
I bought these rain pants to use for at work since they seem durable and would last. The material kept me dry but the first time I wore them, one of the plastic buttons at the waist broke. After paying $120 for these and the plastic button breaks the first time I wear them, I can’t imagine that the second button is going to last much longer. Maybe Carhartt should use some metal buttons for some pants that are supposed to be used for “hard work in hard rain” like they claim. I would normally always recommend Carhartt but not these pants.
These were well made waterproof over pants. They were too heavy for what we needed so mid-weight would have been great.
I practice Russian martial arts year round here in western Oregon in the mud and rain, and this is the first outfit I’ve had that left me dry and comfortable! I like the double layered nylon that breathes on the upper half just above the knees which makes it great for tactical maneuvering like rolling around and doing kicks.
As far as farm work, I’m not sure the nylon will hold up to the blackberries, and I wouldn’t take the chance with the high cost of these rain pants. But good ol’ classic Charhartt B11s do the job just fine and they don’t get torn up if you don’t mind getting a little wet.
I was impressed how light weight these heavy duty rain pants are and how they’re nice and loose so you could wear sweat pants or thermals under them if you’re up North. I just wear them with regular boxer briefs and socks and I didn’t get sticky or too sweaty feeling after doing intense martial arts.
Can’t wait till next month to buy the heavy weight jacket!
Recommend wearing with Free Soldier tactical boots.
Excellent Quality
I bought a size medium and size large in the short length. I am normally a medium in your outerwear but mediums in these are way too tight in the waste. The large fit better but the legs are extremely wide in both sizes. The length was similar to all other short inseams and fit right. The quality and look is great but sizing is bad. The belt loop holes and updated version of the Velcro adjusting area in the waist are a giant improvement. If you’re going to order a pair I suggest getting your regular size and the next size up to find the proper fit.
