102286 - Carhartt Men's Gilliam Vest

Didn’t know I was a vest person til I got this bad larry. Worn it almost every day this past year. Fits under or over any layer I want, great pockets and keeps me toasty. I’m wearing the vest right now as I write this. Get you one!

I love my Rain Defender Vest! It seems true to size. I teeter between L and XL range, so I went with XL so I could layer it on top of other clothes. I used to not be a vest guy, but I love finding reasons to wear it now!

originally saw this vest at a retailer but they didn't have the correct size. Carhart sizing tools worked perfectly. very happy thus far. works well as a base layer and looks great for a walk in the woods or out fishing.

Fit is snug. If you don’t like a very fitted vest, you should definitely size up. I’m 5’8” 145lbs and I usually wear a small. This is a slim fit, not a relaxed fit by any means. The length is where it should be. I like the fit, but if you’re a bigger guy who is used to how most other Carhartt products fit, you will definitely want to go a size up. The vest is high quality though. I love that it has tons of pockets. I’ve worn it almost every day since I received it. It’s summer so I can’t speak on how warm it will be in the colder months in the Pacific Northwest, but it feels substantially warm.

The perfect work vest. Was apprehensive about the durability of the nylon shell but it has lasted two seasons of hard food delivery work. Perfect weight for layering or wearing when temps are in-between a jacket and a shirt. Stands up well to light rain and drizzle.

The fit is more conforming to your body but still offers you great movement for work or play. Lightweight yet warm. Makes a great extra layer or worn alone on cool days. The initial quality leads me to believe this vest will be really durable, but seeing how I’ve only had it a month, more time will tell.

This is vest is Ideal for my daily work wear. I work in New England and travel around an Industrial site which requires my walking in and out of buildings in all kinds of weather. This vest is very comfortable, lightweight and warm. The vest resists dirt and stains and is very easily cleaned and cared for.

I am 6'5" and 260# and I ordered the XL tall and it fits snug. I can wear a light sweatshirt underneath but not a mid or heavyweight carhartt hooded sweatshirt or its too tight. The length of the vest is not overly long in the back like other carhartt items I own. It's a sharp looking vest that offers a good insulation layer without the stiffness or bulk of traditional carhartt outerwear. I would recommend ordering up 1 size if you plan to wear bulky or heavyweight items underneath and if you are over 6' get the tall size.

Love love love this Best I bought one for myself last year I am a woman and it fits wonderfully the women’s clothes are often just to fit it in not as designed for work so this is perfect then I got it for my brother for his birthday and extra-large he just loves it the chest pocket on the left fits your smart phone perfectly then inside zipper pocket for keys and two outside pockets easy to slip your hands into it’s just a great great light weight but warm layer and not. I ordered one for each of my kids for Christmas and also ordered one for another friend way to go as usual Carhartt as heavy and stiff as the duck cloth. It's AWESOME Vest I love It.

Wore it every day the first week I got it. It has a blend between the function of Carhartt vests and the look of the tech worker brand at twice the price.

As far as use goes, it just arrived today, several days ahead of schedule. I have seen a variety of reviews regarding the correct size. I have several other Carhartt jackets and this vest fits the same as the other garments I have from here so no sizing issue with me. Others have mentioned the velcro on the inside pocket. That too is the same as my other stuff, and like others have said, that is some serious velcro! To better suit my personal needs, I carefully removed the piece on the pocket itself. Of course if you need the pocket to stay closed, it will do a great job. Of course I cannot latch the pocket closed now, but that is fine with me. The other inside pocket is zippered as is the outside vest pocket. The side pockets have a snap if you need. I'm looking forward to using this vest. It is very light weight and will be perfect with a flannel shirt of as an extra layer with a coat. It is exactly what I was looking for. As I mentioned, I just received it so no eval on durability other than to say it appears to be the quality I have come to expect from Carhartt. For that reason only, I'll drop one bar on durability, but I don't expect that to be an issue for me.

Worth every penny I paid for it. Fit is perfect, comfort is exceptional providing the right amount of warmth with little weight and bulk. I am sold. Highly recommend. Can’t comment on durability cause I recently got it but it’s a Carhartt so I wouldn’t be to concern about that.

This is the second vest Carhart Rain Defender Black vest I have had. I loved the first one. Although I like the new one, something is different about the collar, it does not seem to fit against my neck and chin as well as the last one and allows more wind and rain to get in. That being said, I still like and recommend the vest. its is comfortable and durable.

I recommend this vest! I absolutely love it. Specifically, I really love pockets! The front top pocket on the outside of the vest is perfect for my cell phone. A bonus are the two additional pockets on the inside. The elastic drawstrings keep the bottom of the vest sung so no wind can move up inside. Last, I was really please at the waterproof shell. I got caught in the rain the other day and the water just wicked away. Color and fit are perfect for me.

The Carhartt 3XL Vest that I receiver is nice and the right color however its too big and I needed a 2XL. I know I can’t return it because I took the tags off before trying it on. I wish I could repurchase a 2XL but cannot locate. I’m willing to purchase again

The older version without the lined collar is actually more comfortable around the neck area. If you are known to have a stubbly neck or beard this vest is constantly grabbing you by the neck hair. The older unlined version never did this. I just have to remember to shave every morning then it's fine...

I’ve been wanting a vest for some time now. Looked at the Patagonia and North Face vest as well. Glad I went with the Carhartt Gilliam vest. I ended up buy it in two colors. It’s perfect fits great true to size.

I love this vest and wear it all the time. It fits perfectly (LT), is warm but lightweight, and the pockets are really useful.

Haven't owned it long enough to truly comment on durability but I have other Carhartt gear that's stood up well and I expect this will be the same. The only reason to mark it down slightly on Functionality is that the velcro on the inside pocket is maybe too strong - you almost need two hands to open it but maybe it will soften a bit after some use.

Saw the vest at the local feed store buying feed. Liked the look and light weight of it. Tried it on over carharrt Paxton hoodie great fit. Only carharrt offers XLT products that are true. Paired great with the chore coat over fot really cold mornings. Took chore coat off kept vest on and never got to cold. Great buy

The vest is too tight in the torso. I have the coat in the same size and it fits me perfectly. The vest run a size smaller than the same sized coat.

I just received this vest and I must say it is VERY nice. I am a contractor so and am constantly in and out of my van. I was looking for something that would keep me warm without needing a full jacket and look presentable when I visit with clients. This was exactly what I was looking for. I was debating on this vest, the Patagonia Nano vest and the Duluth Alaskan Vest and I am very glad I purchased this one. I tried them all on and this fits the best and looks the best. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

I wear a 2xt in everything I wear with the carhartt brand on it and I wear a lot of Carhartt clothing. This Gilliam vest I ordered in a 2xt and it was way to short. Don’t even see how it could be called a tall. Luckily when I ordered this I also ordered a 2xl regular Carhartt vest for a friend. After seeing that my vest didn’t fit, my friend tried mine on and it fit him perfectly so he kept it and saved me the hassle of sending it back. Just a little advice, if you are buying the Carhartt Gilliam vest, buy it a size larger than you would normally wear in any other Carhartt apparel.

This vest is a warm addition to my outer wear...it can be warn separately for quick errands to the store, or under additional outwear for extended stays out of doors...without the bulk. I love this product!

Bought 2 of these—a L Tall for my 6 foot 5 inch son, and an XL tall for my 6 foot 4 inch husband. It’s not easy to buy clothes for either one of them, so I was thrilled they liked the fit, the color and the material.

It was a gift and the person loved it.

I am a electrician and purchased this to replace my Sherpa Vest which the zipper failed on and is the 3rd Carhart vest I have replaced for this reason. I already have the coat version of this which I have owned for a couple of years and it is by far my favorite jacket to run around in, not to hot not to cold and very lightweight. The new vest comes with a cloth neck liner instead of nylon which will get dirty faster as a work jacket and that is really my only complaint. Hopefully the zipper will hold up better than my previous vest, they all have failed where the teeth come together at the bottom.

Definitely lives up to the Carhartt name. When a brand that I've relied on for its durability becomes a high school trend for clothing I was concerned with the quality of products dropping. But this vest is toughness I would expect with the Carhartt label.

Love my Gilman Vest(s), but for the money Carhart needs to update to a more premium fill like Primaloft or Coreloft like the other big boys in the game and bring back the Moss colored version. Have one for my dad and want one for myself. I'm 5' 11" , 190-200lbs, very active...I tend to lean more towards a fitted look/fit, with that said if I'm layering over a hoodie and under an active jacket I prefer the large, but if I'm just wearing over a flannel I prefer a medium.

Great versatility for the whole year. I keep it real close during spring and fall, mainly because I can do it so easily. Its quick on and off with enough style to use it for stepping out with the wife a few times before I inevitability get ( too much ) paint or wet cement on it. This vest is WARM! I have other fleece vests, but not any other insulated ones. This thing will make you sweat if you don't really "need" to wear it! I have other thinner vests that become an every day layer during the winter. This vest can't do that--it can only be worn when you really need some more warmth! That's a good thing, not a complaint. I wish the material was a little more quiet as it tends to make "swoosh" sounds easily when you rub an arm or something against it. There are a few little strings that have come from the poly fill through the stitching, but they're hardly noticeable and don't affect the function of the vest.

I like the vest very well. My old Carhartt vest has a bit shorter collar which I like better.

The vest looks good, fits good and provides the right amount of warmth on cool days/evenings.

This is my second Gilliam Vest. This first was given to me as a promotional gift from a company I work closely with. I wore it for two years before buying a new one. I only bought a new one because I lost weight and the old one didn't fit anymore. Its still in great shape, just too big for me. I wore it fishing, hunting, hiking, working, camping etc, and it held up incredibly well! Phenomenal quality!!! Good job Carhartt!

Ordered for our son, he mentioned that he might like a vest. He had never worn one. He decided he liked it. He has the jacket in the same color which he really likes. So now the vest is part of his wardrobe.

The vest is made well, I like the vest because it is form fitting and not bulky

This vest is everything they said it would be and I am highly satisfied. Perfect fit, I'm 5'4 with broad chest and shoulders so I ordered 3x which was on target. lightweight and not bulky. I could sleep in it.

Excellent Product! Highly recommend. I vary in size between Medium and a Large, but glad I got a large based on others reviews. Very technical when it comes to pockets. 3 snap and 2 zipper storage pockets.<br />Excellent material. Love the fleece type products at the neck.<br />Only improvements would be:<br />Fleece type lining in hand pockets <br />Make hand pockets zippered<br />Charge a bit more and make insulation. As good as any similar vest from other brands but at a fairer price.

The vest was way too big (wide) for me so sizing was an issue. Obviously made for beefier guys. Length was good. Liked the metal zipper for durability and overall light weight for layering. Had to return because of size.

Exactly what I wanted. Lots of pockets- 1 inside zippered plus 1 outside zippered. It is light and warm!

I lost 60 pounds and now have to start replacing clothes that no longer fit. I am happy to say that the product has remained the same over time. Good! I have a few more items to replace a few more items and hope that the others remain the same.

Excellent fit, extremely warm for being as light as it is. I'm 6-foot and 185 lb and I wear a medium, fits perfectly.

I also own the Gilliam Jacket and it fits well but the vest fits much smaller in the stomach area and is shorter in the front.

I love my gillian vest. This vest is light weight , but is perfect for layering. It's very stylish , and warm alone. EZ to layer with a coat or jacket. Also has the adjustable waist bungee cord. I would purchase again without a doubt.

Lightweight not big and bulky keeps me warn

It’s too small. My other Carhartt items are XL and they fit fine but this XL is too small. Not sure why? I would recommend ordering a double XL if you usually order XL

I love the vest. Nice technical features like all the pockets with different closures and the fleece inside the collar is great. I use mine for cycling in cool weather in Northern CA.

if your looking for a flexible, usable layer this one is perfect. weather it be to work or hunting I always have this in my truck it literally weighs nothing and looks great even after being pushed in my backpack for day. If you are looking for one to work in this is not the one the outer material wouldnt sustain much work before tearing.

I consistently wear a large in everything, but the large I ordered was too big, especially through torso. I really liked the vest though but had to return it. Like other reviews, the collar is a little high.

I bought a Carhartt Gilliam jacket for myself and liked it so much I bought one for my brother. He likes it a lot as well. So decided to give a vest a try. I don't usually were vests and haven't worn this as much as I have the jacket version. But - this is just as nice of a warmth layer as the jackets. Nice, nice quality. Same fit and finish. I usually wear it with a Carhartt long sleeve t-shirt under it. Has the same handy zippered side chest pocket which I really like. Edging on neck and shoulders is a very soft and nice material. Would really like to see the hooded Gilliam jacket offered again.

I was able to pick this up on one of the season sales and couldn't be happier about it. Great for the fall or layered under the jacket in the winter.

love puffy layers and there versatility but often destroy them due to my life activities and work. This balances light weight, style and function without looking like i am always logging... but it seem like it could stand a day in the brush and branches.

I have tried Duluth Vest, Ariat Vest, and this is now my favorite. It is light weight but keeps the core warm in the Cold Colorado mornings.

This is my husband's 3rd vest. He likes this vest so much he keeps one for working in his shop, one for driving his Road Tractor and one for good. I also have one that I wear when I go grocery shopping or to work. They are lightweight, plenty of pocket room and a chest pocket for a cell phone. These have been some of the best clothing purchases I have made. I definitely would recommend this vest.

I looked long and hard for a good vest I could wear to the construction site in the spring in fall without looking too out of place if I walked into a business lunch with it still on. I looked at a variety of different brands and eventually settled on this one. Couldn't be happier. The vest is thin and lightweight without sacrificing warmth or durability. I can tell the snaps on the front pockets and zippers throughout the rest of the vest are high quality. I also get the feeling that it was designed by someone who's first priority was to make a piece of clothing that is functional and that shows when you wear it. The waterproof fabric is nice both because it doesn't soak up water but also because it seems to be a bit more durable that the fabric that other companies would use. I definitely recommend.

The Gilliam vest gives a very nice appearance and looks to be very well made. I was disappointed in that it is thin and would not provide the warmth that I was looking for. I found a similar vest made by a popular outdoor sports wear company that was insulated with down on sale for only $15 more and with free shipping. I ordered their large size which turned out to be 1 inch longer than the Gilliam that I ordered in a large tall. Needless to say, I'm returning the Gilliam.

I love these things! This one is my 2nd purchase in X-Large for wearing over bulky winter shirts, sweats, or sweaters my first was a Large for wearing under lighter weight coats. If you're looking for something light and not bulky but truly warm for layering this one is it! Looks good, it's comfy without the weight and bulk of a traditional Carhartt heavy weight work vest.

Very lightweight vest, but the material seems tough. I find it to be all I need in 35-40 degree weather when paired with a flannel shirt. I’m 5’10” 170 lbs and the medium is perfect.

This vest is lightweight and perfect for wearing with a shirt when you don't want to have restricted movement with a bulky coat. The pockets are a bonus because face it, you just can't have enough pockets.

I’m a big fan of this vest. The rugged Carhartt durability that I have grown to appreciate has combine with a bit more of a clean and versatile offering that I can dress up or dress down. Pockets are fairly secure. Shoulder opening are fitted and comfortable. Waist is wide enough to fit most bodies very comfortably, but the overall best is not too blousy for a more tailored look.

Was shopping around for a synthetic vest to wear under my regular jacket on really cold days. Happen to be on sale at the store while buying feed and picked it up. Really surprised on how warm it keeps your chest and neck when zipped all the way up. Like the lots of pockets too. Fraction of the price name brand "outdoor" brands. It's a keeper!

I bought two of these for my two sons. One is in a wheelchair and can't have bulky outer ware. This fits him perfectly and is thin enough but warm enough to wear without any cause of pressure sores. The other son loves his as well and it fits him great.

I'm 6'3" 350lbs. The vest I purchased is 3xl. It is a perfect fit. I cant stand the restriction on my arms that a bulky jacket creates. I bought this vest to wear underneath a fleece jacket. It dipped to about 38 degrees two weeks ago, and hovered in the mid 40s all day. I had to remove the fleece and just wear the vest which kept my core really warm. If you're working.....the vest alone is enough to keep you warm on cooler days.

The fabric is a tight weave that is not prone to snagging. The finish is water repellent. The pocket layout and design is functional. It is surprisingly warm considering how thin it is. It adds warmth with very little bulk. It is perfect for those who utilize the Layering Principle for versatile comfort in changing conditions. The Hi-Viz orange is appreciated on job sites. A version in Hi-Viz Lime Yellow needs to be added to the lineup.
