I have worn this jacket in a downpour deluge of rain and stayed dry. The front zipper can come all the way up to your chin and the length keeps your pants pockets dry as well. The pull over hood is really great. It is slightly oversized enough that you can wear a ball cap under the hood if you are like me. It’s a really good looking and well made jacket but I wouldn’t trust it in anything over a light drizzle. It’s more of a windbreaker than a rain jacket

Great jacket, repels water very well and keeps the wind out. Very durable and handles a lot of rough stuff and surprisingly, no damage so far. Has a ton of pocket space; you can shove a lotta stuff into the pockets, seems to hold at least 4 liters in each pocket.

Exactly what I was hoping for. Great top layer when the rain hits and your working outside! Fit and look is also great.
It does the job except for one issue with the zipper getting caught with the inside of the jacket material. An additional stitching all along the inside parallel with the zipper may prevent the zipper from snags.

This is a nice looking jacket. The reason for only 3 stars is that one of the sleeve snaps fell off on my first day out. I was not doing anything strenuous so it makes me wonder about quality. There are a lot of snaps on this jacket and it doesn’t have a zipper cover on the outside to keep rain out.

It is HARD to zip up. It hangs up continually soon after I begin to try and zip it up. Other than that, I really like it. However, the zipper is about to drive me nuts.

I love this jacket in every respect except for the zipper. It constantly gets snagged in the jacket fabric. Kinda a pain when you’re running out of the house to lock up the chickens and you have to stand on the porch to get it zipped up fully. Not sure if this is a defect or not. Will be reaching out to carhartt.
Size ran a bit small, im,511, 210 fit built, not a room to,move freely, shovel, chop, throw. It's lightweight, prob more on the light weight then I expected. Stayed dry, but cuffs didn't seal tight amd arms were to,short when extended.
My husband likes it. Looks great and does what its supposed to. He likes that it's lightweight. We live in Texas. We'd recommend.

Hadn’t even worn the jacket for the first time and a button from the sleeve fell right off. Seemed like a nice jacket and I always associated Cathcart with quality, but this was an unexpected disappointment off the bat.

I love this jacket. The only problem is the zipper constantly gets stuck on the liner. Every time you try to zip it up, it will get caught.
Received the coat, opened the bag and attempted to try it on. The zipper caught two times on the inside fabric. Was able to get it up/down one time and then it jammed again. Going back to Carhartt.com. What has happened to quality??? :(

This jacket is everything that I expected it to be. The fit was good I usually wear an XXL , but have found that an XL works in Carhartt for me.

I’ve had issues finding jackets with long enough sleeves/torsos but the large long was perfect!
The jacket when new was black looked great, after the first wash the sleeve ends and pocket areas are chalky looking. Maybe I was expecting more.

This is my new 'sit outside at night reading a book and smoking a cigar' coat. It has kept me quite warm while I was sedentary with the air temperature below 30°F. Dew and even frost has formed on the outside while I stayed warm and dry. It is also lightweight, comfortably roomy, and wind proof. It would get 5 stars if it was fireproof. Cigars and synthetic fabrics guarantee there will eventually be a serious hole in the coat.

Fits me well, snug, but I prefer snug vs swimming is cloth. Carhartt XL sizes are way too big for me. I ordered a size large, I'm 5'10" and about 240. <br />Material seem OK, more of a light duty jacket. Haven't tested the waterproofness, but seems like it'll do ok. Also this is a shell with no/very little insulation. Overall, for the price, I'm happy.

I needed a jacket to have available as a Volunteer Ranger, in brown, that I could use as a light jacket but was easily stuffed into my daypack. This didn't stuff down quite as tight as I was hoping, but it does the trick. I like the pockets.

Actually taking time to do a review. This is a real review not an ad or bot or anything. I am a huge dude at about 330, 6ft. I bought the 3xt coat because I buy 3x K87s, and it was a little tight in the stomach and WAY to tall. The bottom of the coat doesn't stretch at all which was not something I was used to. I eventually returned and got a 4x regular, so it wasnt as tall, and a bit bigger to fit around me, and let me tell ya, this was a great decision and i love this jacket. I also compared this to a competitor's jacket i got for 100, which only had 2 pockets and was just not as good honestly. This Rockford thing is awesome, 4 outside pockets, 1 inside, hood, durable thingy to hang this on without fear the it'll rip, the all black looks good makes ya look a little thnner, its a very thin coat so honestly its great to wear in up to about 40-60 degree weather with a chance of rain, especially if you'll be movin around a lot this coat is light so it wont make you sweat to death.
As the title suggests, this is a water resistant jacket with a stylish military appearance look. Very light weight and comfortable, chest and stomach area are very generous in terms of space. If you're on the fence, I encourage you to get one, it's worth it.

The xxxtall is a perfect fit for me at 6ft 7in and 270 lbs. At 76 years old I stay healthy and in shape by speed walking/jogging 4 miles every morning with my GermanShepherd. The jacket is well made, light weight, well thought out and perfect for the rainy, misty drizzle we often have in Eugene Oregon. It keeps me dry and temperature comfortable. S
I like this jacket very much. It is exactly a light jacket. Lighter than what it looks in the picture. It's ok though. High quality made. I was looking for something a tad heavier but this will do. I'm a delivery driver so I needed something to repel rain when exiting a vehicle for a few seconds but be light to not weigh me down. This will do that. I'll use this from like the middle of March until October or November. I live in Maryland where its 4 seasons. I think this is light enough to even use mid summer in rains. The sizing program was exact fit for me. I'm very happy with this purchase and will buy more stuff in the future. Thanks!

Once I removed the hook/loop closure on the right inside pocket - which I use for my phone - I can honestly say this is the best all-around jacket I've ever owned! Light as a feather, ample pockets, durable, and surprisingly warm!!

By far the best rain jacket I've ever owned. It is actually waterproof unlike other lightweight rain coats I've had in the past and its lightweight enough that I won't sweat too much in a summer rainstorm.

I bought this for my grandson. He hasn’t worn it yet because the weather is still warm, however, it will be turning soon. So far it fits him great and he likes the style and the attached hood. It appears to be well made.
Overall a fine jacket. However, the right side of the zipper is sewn too close to an inside flap, and the zipper jams every time. The zipper is pretty much useless as a result. Don't know if this is a one off issue, although others do seem to have the same problem.

The zipper locks up. On the right and left side of the zipper when from bottom to top the zipper has no room to move due to the threads applied to fabric are way too close to the zipper itself and won't allow it to be zipped up or down. Binding on the fabric of the jacket itself.
I'm a hardcore Carhartt wearer. Have been for years. their products are top-notch and will remain a loyalist. However, the rain defender seems like a weak link and should be taken out of its product line until a better zipper is developed. At least that's my honest opinion. Purchased the Rain Defender about 6 months ago and used it about 4 or 5 times. The last time I used it the plastic zipper snapped at the bottom here you connect one side to the other. So I spent the day in the rain with the jacket about halfway open. That plus knowing I paid about $60 for it aggravated me. Long story short, Carhartt should beef up the zippers on this item.............and send me a new one.
I'm an XL that ordered a xxl because I needed to fit over a suit jacket and not wrinkle everything. So order the size you actually are.
Love it works awesome in the rain
The jacket works very well in the rain and is also lightweight. The color, style and fit are all great. The only complaint is that the zipper gets caught on the interior of the jacket EVERY single time I try to zip it up. I do not want to spend 10 minutes pulling the zipper up and down to get it halfway up and stuck. I tried to pull it apart and it broke the zipper. I don’t know if my product alone was faulty but I cannot recommend a jacket that doesn’t zip.
I have come to love the Carhartt brand. It works, no frills, just quality! Jackets, coats and vests ... prepared for anything Texas throws at me!
Sleeves were not too long which is often a problem at my size.

Does the job it says it does. Does not breathe at all. Runs a bit big. I'm 6'1, 300 and it feels like I'm swimming in it. Would've liked a 3X but had to order a 3XT because there was zero 3X regular in stock. All in all it's a good jacket for keeping you dry. Kind of disappointed when I read on the tag that it was made in Cambodia. Website says "made in the USA since 1889."

Very nice light weight hooded jacket with the right amount of lining for me. It is an excellent windbreaker. I prefer to layer during colder weather rather than wear a single, heavy coat.that you are stuck with if you become a bit overheated --- this jacket works perfectly for layering. I purposely bought a size larger to allow for more layering so I can't speak precisely to the fit issue but even when I'm not layering, I feel I look good in it.

I own this coat in brown. It is very comfortable on a cool day and I get more compliments on it than any coat I own. My daughter has one in navy and is even sharper. Too bad it's only available in black

These are great jackets they’re lightweight and they re-pal the rain.
I have a different raincoat by a different brand it works well however all the rain is deflected to your pants. For some reason this coat does not do that which makes it easier to stay dry and move around in. The pockets are roomy if you need to carry accessories for your outdoor activities. It also looks very nice.
Picked this jacket up a couple years ago and have been using it both at work and to go out after work. The colour "Breen" looks great and is unique. The jacket has stood up to my abuse both at work, on the town and in the forest, it has replaced all of my rainwear except for my FR rainwear
I often wear this as an everyday jacket as it's quite comfortable even on non-rainy days - as today was supposed to be! Not for the first time was I glad to have it when the weather suddenly changed. The jacket and the five largish pockets keep me and everything I need for my work commute dry during those sometimes extended waits for public transportation. Highly recommended.
